Almost daily, we are asked which dental floss to use. There are so many kinds, brands, flavors and textures of dental floss that it’s no wonder people get overwhelmed. The answer takes me back my days as a resident at the Cleveland Clinic and we were asking one of the staff docs about which dental tool he used to prepare a tooth a certain way. His response still sticks with me. He said, “It doesn’t matter what you use. If you can make the tooth look like this using a stick, then use a stick.” I haven’t tried the stick method of preparing a tooth, but his logic wasn’t lost on the residents in the room. The simple answer to which dental floss to use really depends on your own preferences. Our advice to our patients is to find a floss that up you like and will use and then learn how to make that floss the most effective in keeping your teeth clean.
Which dental floss is the best? The floss you use and works for you. Just make sure you use some dental floss every day.
Until next time, keep smiling!
